Antonina Sedakova started recycling materials and creating new products from them in 2021, although she has been interested in the topic of recycling since the beginning of her studies at Aalto University in 2015.
Both the designer's grandmother and mother were always fond of fashion. For this reason, a huge amount of fabrics, clothing and accessories have accumulated in the house over the years. Also, because of Antonina's passion for fashion and collecting vintage items, friends and acquaintances periodically donated or gave away items from their archives.
Since 2015, Antonina has been studying Fashion Design at Aalto University in Helsinki. While studying and living in Finland, the designer got to know the culture of recycling and sustainable consumption and disposal in the fashion industry in this country. Since then, the designer could not look differently at the production process of clothes, as she already understood the responsibility that she must bear as a fashion designer, creating something new that could potentially harm the environment if not done in a meaningful way.
Returning to Russia in 2020, Antonina decided to recycle as much as possible all the materials accumulated in her archive over her entire life. Thus was born a capsule collection of different assortments of clothes, which Antonina called "Recycling". Subsequently, the designer presented the collection at a garage sale at the Sevkabel factory, where all the products scattered in a matter of hours. The interest of the public in the topic of recycled materials into new creative products continues to inspire the designer to continue the practice of conscious production.
In November 2021, Antonina was invited as a speaker at the "SPBU Fashion Day" event organized by SPBU. "SPBU Fashion Day" is a 2-day event, organized by Saint-Petersburg State University (https://spbu.ru/) for the students of the Fashion Department and the public. 6 experts in the fashion field came together to have a discussion about the topic of "Slow fashion" in Russia.
